Mother's Interpretation
The story of "Mother Tongue" was not only interesting by touching. The respect that Amy Tan revealed to her mother by writing her fiction books in her language she grew up with was the epitome of respect.
It is amazing how Amy did not ever notice during one of her lengthy speeches that her English was different until her mother was present at one of them. This was a reality check for Amy Tan and this made her aware of her mothers "broken" speech even more. Although, Amy had set backs as a child because of her mother's speech, in the long run it has been a schoolmaster for her to learn by. Amy received her mother's approval by the words "so easy to read" she knew then that she was a success.
