The Heart of an American
Revision of The Struggle to Be An All American Girl
All Wong wanted growing up was to be an average American girl, no matter how hard her mother tried to force her to learn about her Chinese culture. Going to school every afternoon to learn about the Chinese culture wasn't something Wong enjoyed. Wong disliked everything about her own culture: the smells, the sound, and the looks of it all. Wong was embarrassed of her background. Wong wanted more in life than her Chinese culture could give her. She didn't care to learn the language or anything related to her heritage. Wong was eventually granted a cultural divorce. She could finally be that American girl she dreamed about. She still thought of herself as multicultural. She was an American girl at heart, but still chinese on the outside. No matter what, she will always be part chinese.
