What is Winning?

"The Lottery," and "The Storm." are two very different stories. Family seems to be the comparison between the two. There were similarities, like the struggles that each family endured. The lottery was about a dark day in a sense and the storm was about a dark, rainy day literally. In the story "The Lottery"; the destruction of a family by stoning and there was no one that could change it, while the story of "The Storm"; Calixta was left alone with an ex lover and chose to be faithful, after the storm it is calm and sunny, as Calixta from the choice she made. When left to our own devices, sometimes we don't make the best decisions. Calixta was able to fight lust. The annual traditional drawing of a persons name to be stoned by all is incomprehensible, this is not a lucky draw. Both of these stories are very much alike in a sense, "The Storm" is somewhat like the lottery and visa versa.
